Objective

To translate an existing board game concept into a complete visual package by designing the game board, card sleeves, and box—creating a cohesive, functional, and engaging player experience.

Board Game Design – Visual Identity & Packaging

For this project, I collaborated with a group of Graphic Technician students who came to me with a finished idea and concept for their board game. My role was to take their vision and bring it to life visually by designing all of the physical game elements.

I created the full game board layout, making sure the design supported the gameplay, theme, and flow. In addition, I designed custom card sleeves and the box packaging, ensuring that everything felt cohesive and reflected the world and style of the game.

Throughout the process, I worked closely with the group to translate their ideas into clear, engaging visuals that not only looked appealing but also enhanced the player experience. The result was a complete visual package — from board to box — ready for presentation and playtesting.

Workflow

1. Understanding the Concept Met with the group to dive into their game idea and understand the theme, mechanics, and overall vision.

2. Gathering Inspiration I researched similar board games and visual styles to define a direction that supported the game’s world and gameplay.

3. Exploring Layouts I sketched early ideas for the board, card sleeves, and box to establish structure and visual flow.

4.Designing the Game Board Developed the full board design with a focus on clarity, theme consistency, and an enjoyable player experience.

5. Creating Card Sleeves Designed custom card sleeves that aligned with the game’s style and stayed functional during gameplay.

6. Box & Packaging Built the box design to tie everything together visually and give the game a strong, cohesive presence.

7. Refinement Adjusted visuals and layout details in collaboration with the group to match the final direction.

8. Final Delivery Prepared all files in production-ready formats and delivered the complete visual package.

Creative Process

I developed the visual identity for the board game by designing the game board, card sleeves, and box artwork from the ground up. Working from the group’s concept, I translated their ideas into a functional and engaging visual system. The process involved refining layouts, building thematic elements, and ensuring that every part of the game felt connected. Typography, color choices, and graphic details were carefully aligned to support the gameplay experience and strengthen the overall world of the game.

Results

The final outcome was a complete visual package for the board game — including a fully designed board, custom card sleeves, and a cohesive box design. Each element reinforces the game’s theme and enhances playability, giving the group a polished and professional presentation piece ready for testing, pitching, or production.

Conclusion

This project gave me the opportunity to combine layout skills, illustration thinking, and packaging design into one unified system. It strengthened my ability to collaborate closely with a creative team while transforming ideas into tangible, player-ready visuals. The result is a game experience where design supports the mechanics — and brings the concept to life.
