Objective
As part of a school assignment, In an group we were challenged to design a full travel magazine based on one of four themes: youth travel, skiing, cruising, or diving. I was given diving – a theme rich in atmosphere, storytelling, and visual depth.
Workflow
1. Theme Selection Chose diving from four possible themes (youth, ski, cruise, diving) — a concept rich in visual storytelling and atmosphere.
2. Research & Inspiration Collected references from real-world travel magazines and studied diving culture, editorial layout trends, and target audience preferences.
3. Concept Development Defined the visual tone: calm, immersive, and ocean-inspired. Focused on creating a balance between large imagery and clean, readable typography.
4. Layout & Structure Built grid systems and developed individual spreads in Adobe InDesign — including feature articles, guides, and gear overviews.
5. Visual Identity Selected a consistent color palette, typographic style, and image treatment to reflect the mood of being underwater.
6. Refinement & Presentation Polished each spread for visual flow and readability, finalized the design, and prepared it for presentation as a complete, cohesive magazine.

Creative Process
We designed the magazine from scratch using Adobe InDesign, supported by Photoshop for image treatment. The layout is built around fluid grid systems, airy compositions, and deep oceanic tones to reflect the serenity and mystery of diving. Custom icons, photo placement, and attention to typography helped create a cohesive and immersive reading experience.
Results
The result was SKAL – a conceptual magazine that explores the underwater world through long-form articles, gear guides, and destination features. Topics range from freediving and wreck diving to night diving and underwater communication, all wrapped in a calm yet dynamic visual universe.
Conclusion
This project allowed me to work like a real editorial designer — balancing structure with creativity, and using design to invite the reader into another world. Every spread was crafted to feel like a breath held just beneath the surface.
